چکیده

Methods Nine boys and 10 girls (mean age 10 years (SD1.4)) performed four activities barefoot and wearing sports shoes (Kanbarra, Asics Oceania Pty Ltd.) in a randomised order. To allow for a gradual warm up, activities were undertaken in a predetermined order of: 2x20sec single leg balance eyes open; 2 x20sec single leg balance eyes closed; 2x standing long jump; timed running agility (4x10m). These tasks were undertaken as previously described in the literature [2,3]. The balance tasks were undertaken on concrete surface, while the standing long jump and agility were undertaken on carpet. The better of two performances, except running agility in which only one attempt was undertaken, were selected for analysis. Significance was assessed with the Wilcoxon Signed rank test for non-parametric data and a paired samples t-test for parametric data.

Electrical Activity of Selected Shank Muscles When Using Minimalist Shoes during Single-Leg Landing Task

Nowadays, light and minimal shoes have been used by athletes in various types of sports activities in order to be in a position close to barefoot position. But its effect on the electrical activity of the shank muscles is not well understood. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the electrical activity of selected shank muscles when using minimalist shoes, normal shoes and barefo...

Comparison of Ground Reaction Force Components during Running with Running Shoes and Control Shoes in Individuals with Genu Varum

Introduction: Running poses an essential role in maintaining cardiovascular health. However, it has been demonstrated that 2.5 to 38 injuries per 1,000 hours of running can occur. The purpose of this study was to investigate ground reaction forces components during running with running shoes compared to control shoes in individuals with genu varum. Methods: This study was laboratory and semi-e...

The Risks and Benefits of Running Barefoot or in Minimalist Shoes

CONTEXT The popularity of running barefoot or in minimalist shoes has recently increased because of claims of injury prevention, enhanced running efficiency, and improved performance compared with running in shoes. Potential risks and benefits of running barefoot or in minimalist shoes have yet to be clearly defined. OBJECTIVE To determine the methodological quality and level of evidence pert...

Kinematic and kinetic parameters associated with running in different shoes.

The characteristics of the midsole were examined in four pairs of running shoes by a materials test. The variables of interest were the peak acceleration, time to peak acceleration and the kinetic energy absorbed. Ten subjects then ran at a recreational jogging pace (3.5 ms-1) barefoot and in the shoes. An accelerometer secured to the lower tibia was used to measure the peak acceleration and ti...

Acute effect of different minimalist shoes on foot strike pattern and kinematics in rearfoot strikers during running.

Despite the growing interest in minimalist shoes, no studies have compared the efficacy of different types of minimalist shoe models in reproducing barefoot running patterns and in eliciting biomechanical changes that make them differ from standard cushioned running shoes. The aim of this study was to investigate the acute effects of different footwear models, marketed as "minimalist" by their ...
